Honoring Our Past. Uniting Our Future.

Discover the proud legacy of the Akyem of Ghana—warriors, leaders, and builders of Ghana’s rich cultural heritage.

Who We Are

A Legacy of Courage and Unity

The Akyem are known as the “leopards” of Ghana—fearless, proud, and resilient. With origins in royal clans such as Asona, Agona, and Oyoko, the Akyem established sovereign states after resisting conquest and colonization. Their leadership helped shape the formation of other major regions in Ghana, including Akuapem and New Dwaben.

What We Strive For

Our Mission

Preserve and share the historical and cultural contributions of the Akyem states: Abuakwa, Kotoku, and Bosome.

Vision

To unite and empower the global Akyem community through the preservation, celebration, and advancement of our rich cultural heritage.

Our Organization

The Akyem Association of New Jersey is a non-profit cultural organization dedicated to preserving the legacy and advancing the unity of the Akyem people—one of the descendants of the great Akan civilization in Ghana.
